Opinion | Parents, put down your cellphones. Your kids are watching.

As a Mom whose job requires me to be connected quite a bit, this is something I think about and try to be aware of all the time – in front of my kids and others. While my kids don’t have access to devices at this point in their lives, they are no doubt watching how we use ours. Great article to read and digest.
“Your phone addiction is something you can change. Insist on unplugging, and include your spouse, if you have one. Commit to walking in your house with your family and turning off your phone. Can you do it? Because if you can’t do it, your kids can’t do it. And you can’t demonstrate that behavior, then don’t be surprised when you’re sitting at dinner and your kid’s looking down at their phone. The phone isn’t going to teach them to put it down; you have to.”

What a day it’s been. I started off my day in Texas talking about tech for good, and will end my day (/start my Friday?) in Massachusetts with an example of the same. It’s been a trying day for so many in my town, with the gas explosions that have been all over the news. While we hope it doesn’t take a tragedy to bring out the best in people, today and tonight I was comforted by the images, stories of community – people offering up their homes, their kitchens, their stores and much more for those who were impacted by these explosions – all seen through social media. When used as a tool, this stuff is changing our lives. Our kids need to see examples of how social media is used the right way, and I saw 200+ of them today. My heart goes out to all the people directly impacted by today’s events, the brave women and men who risk their lives to help others, and the community members reaching out to strangers. A trying day, but a wonderful lesson in humanity. #techforgood #parenting #community #kindness #socialmedia

What you need to know before posting those first-day-of-school photos

As most of us are heading – or have already started – back to school, I know how excited we all get (myself included) for the back-to-school pictures of our kids with their signs, at the bus stop, or with their friends. I’m grateful to have been part of this fantastic NBC News article, talking about what to remember before posting these back-to-school pictures. Check out my thoughts and some helpful tips before posting. Oh, and HAPPY BACK TO SCHOOL! NBC #backtoschool #onlinesafety #parenting

Doing some work today with the wonderful Winchester Coalition For A Safer Community today, with a couple special guests (threats used preventatively for best behavior). Love the work this community does to keep people educated, and kids safe. #parenting #safety #smartphones
