Greatest Showman

It’s that time of year. If you’re anything like me, patience is running thin and stress is running high. I woke up to this in my inbox this morning (thanks Mimi) and gave me a little motivation to conquer the day. Step out behind the stand, go get ‘em. 💪🏼💖

The Screen Time feature @Apple rolled out recently is genius – and horrifying at the same time. I enabled it to prove to my husband he spent more time on his phone then me, and it turned into something that absolutely shocked me. I was just talking to two friends about how eye-opening this feature is. Have you checked out your screen time report lately? Prepare to be horrified and how much time we’re all sucked into these screens! #screentime #parenting

Village School PTO

Everyday I’m presenting I get rush from audiences, and also realizing that this is what I get to do every day. I still don’t believe it. That being said, this week was particularly special, as I was able to return to where it ALL started for me, Marblehead, MA. Being greeted by old teachers, mentors, and even kids I used to babysit that are now in high school 🤦🏼‍♀️was a feeling like no other. It’s community. It’s support. It’s friendships. It’s trust. It’s hard work for these schools to coordinate schedules, funds and the fact they do it every year is such an incredible honor and privilege. I was fortunate enough to spend 3, busy days talking to students and parents and aside from my gratefulness, here was a major takeaway from the kids (4th – 12th graders): They’re watching US. They’re listening to our rules, but also watching us break them. While I’m not suggesting rules must be the same for parents and kids, we must be the role models. As a parent, I struggle daily to be mindful of how I don’t let my kids use devices – yet I’m always on mine. If we want to help our kids have a healthy relationship with technology, it starts with us. #parenting #healthytech #techforgood
Shout out to Marblehead admins, staff, and PTOs – you guys are some of the VERY best in the business. 💖🧙🏽‍♂️#magicians

Groundbreaking study examines effects of screen time on kids

Another day, another report on screens and our brains. CBS News always does such great pieces on this topic, and again it’s a MUST-watch for parents. The conclusion is what we’ve been saying all along – we don’t really have any data – YET – as to what all this means for our kids, their brains and their future. But early indicators, especially the studies done on infants and screen time (most fascinating), say our overuse isn’t good. We’ll continue to learn more as the studies play out over time, but let’s be mindful. Let’s learn from the college students mentioned in this piece who limited their screen time to 30 minutes a day, and suddenly felt less lonely and depressed. Let’s make educated attempts to do a better job of using this as a tool, as opposed to letting it use us. #screentime #parenting #techsafety #techhealth
