An unfortunate situation that serves as a teachable moment for our kids and some reminders to us parents. My friend, and cyber security expert Julie said to me months ago this was going to happen…and here we are. While this happened on #Fortnite, it really could happen on any app or game where a credit card is connected. This story serves as a great lesson in protecting passwords and for us parents, really KNOWING the features of the apps/games your kids use/play. I’d definitely show this news story to your kids (I particularly like the boys comment in the article – super relatable). #parenting

Installment #4 of what the hell do I do with my kids this summer not involving screens. While not a new concept, I have recently discovered audiobooks for my kids at our local library. Free, free of screens, counts towards their “reading competition” this summer, and allows me time to listen to mine (also racking up some quality family time) – they even argue over what book is played in the car. You local library may shock you with the amount of activities and options they have for your kids this summer, also a free and wonderful alternative for those days you need a break from the pool (or are recovering from a festive fourth🇺🇸). #screenfree #parenting #summer

7 adults went undercover as high-school students and found cell phones pose a much bigger problem than adults can imagine

This is such a spot-on perspective that I’m sorry I didn’t see earlier (thanks, famous co-star Julie). Seven young-twenty-somethings went undercover in a high school as part of an awesome A&E documentary. Their observations around cell-phone use and it’s impact were what I see and observe every single day. Parents/teachers of teens/tweens, this is a great piece and even better documentary.
“The kinds of challenges that I experienced in high school along with my peers are now 24/7 issues because of technology, computers, cell phones, and social media. There’s no real escape,” Feldman told Business Insider. “Now you can be 13 and feel like you have the full weight of the world on your shoulders. I don’t think teachers and parents, respectfully, understand what they are facing.”

Experts: Predators get crafty online

Thanks to NBC12 and Brent Solomon NBC12 for having me on this very important segment. A great reminder to parents: know what apps/games your kids are using, and their basic functionality. Strangers online are a real concern, and something we don’t talk enough about. #onlinesafety #parenting

My latest installment of “what the hell can we do with our kids this summer that doesn’t involve a tablet or phone.” This poor child has run more errands with me in his little life, but I always try to find a way to make it less tedious. Today, it was the car dealership so we struck up a little World Cup in the parking lot with a ball he got from the dentist. Most interesting thing was that in the hour we were there, 3 people commented how it was great to see a kid playing and not on a phone. Again, zero judgements or shaming, because it’s effort and I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to just sit and let him watch the TV inside. But, it’s possible and more memorable (and burns some serious calories off this not-so-summer-ready-mom-bod 😉).
P.S. I won. #nomercy #parenting #techfree #summer
